SHIELD 3 castEven though Andrew Garner survived the HYDRA ambush, Agent May is gunning for Ward. Coulson finds out what the ACTU is really doing to Inhumans, Ward may have a rival, and the truth about Lash is revealed.

What a way to celebrate 50 episodes.

*** SPOILERS BELOW ***

When the previews for this episode came out, it was implied that Andrew Garner didn’t survive the HYDRA ambush two weeks ago. Well, Garner did survive…because he’s really the deadly Inhuman, Lash.

It was a shocking twist to a very busy episode that included May and Morse’s return to the field, Coulson’s tour of the ACTU facility, and a possible new rival for Grant Ward as the head of HYDRA.

Garner (Blair Underwood) almost died from the ambush but a SHIELD agent was there to help out. He wound up a bit scorched, but still alive.

That doesn’t matter to Agent May, who takes out her anger towards Hunter and, later, Morse in one epic fight that also shows Morse is fit for duty again. Both girls are now gunning for Ward, who is worried Werner (Spencer Treat Clark) might talk about his role in the attack to SHIELD.

MARVEL'S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. - "Among Us Hide..." - The stakes get even higher as Hunter and May continue to go after Ward and Hydra, and Daisy and Coulson begin to suspect that the ATCU may be keeping a big secret from S.H.I.E.L.D., on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Kelsey McNeal) DAZ CRAWFORD, BRETT DALTONWerner does talk, to a guy named Malick, played by Powers Boothe. It’s not confirmed if he’s also part of the World Security Council in the Marvel movies, but it would be interesting if he is. Malick does talk to Ward about Werner, and how he may have to be sacrificed. Even so, Ward may be smart to keep one eye on Malick.

Daisy, meanwhile, is trying to figure out who Lash really is, and suspects he may be part of the ACTU. She, along with Mac and Hunter suspect it’s Banks (Andrew Howard), Rosalind Price’s right hand man. They go as far as knocking him out to get a blood sample. Of course, the rules of TV drama say the first suspect is never the right one. That means Banks isn’t their guy.

Back to May and Morse, they head to the Grand Caymans to find Werner’s bank accounts and papers. They get caught, but Morse uses some fancy talking to almost get out of there. May’s preferred response, her fists, ultimately helps them escape. May accuses Morse of hesitating too much, and being a bit afraid. That may have been a bit unfair, because Morse’s quick thinking could have been enough. May was more upset because it is more personal. Andrew was nearly killed, and she was more angry.

SHIELD Among Us Hide ECoulson finally hopes to get to the ACTU facility with Rosalind (Constance Zimmer), but that’s delayed because her house was robbed…maybe. Coulson notices her furniture is too new, she owns a rare bat autographed by Mickey Mantle and has too many books about Margaret Thatcher.

That’s when the show does something shocking: it tries to humanize Rosalind by explaining her attitude towards Inhumans, although it won’t be accepted by everyone. She shows Coulson how they are keeping Inhumans in special boxes. She wants to put them in medical comas until a cure can be found. She even reveals she lost a husband to cancer. That’s a reason, but some Inhumans may like their powers. How does she deal with them?

Daisy, Mac and Hunter also see what’s happening in the ACTU facility, and they don’t like it. It’ll be interesting what they think of what Coulson discovers. Daisy already suspects he’s a little too attracted to Rosalind, and may not accept her reasons.

May and Morse do find Werner being tortured by Kebo (Daz Crawford). Morse takes care of Kebo by zapping him in a pool. May SHIELD Among Us Hide Dalso learns what really happened at the ambush. Werner says he thought he killed Garner. He just didn’t expect the SHIELD agent….and Garner changing into something else.

That’s right. Lash isn’t with the ACTU. He’s with SHIELD…because he’s Garner. The way he changes is something to see, almost like the Hulk.

Is his reason for creating an Inhumans group really a plot to find and eliminate them? How long has he been doing this, and was it during his marriage to May?

May is stunned, to say the least.

Meanwhile, Lincoln does call Daisy to let her know he’s fine, but Garner is nearby, hoping to find him.

As for Simmons hoping to get back to the blue planet to rescue Will, Fitz still hasn’t found a way to restore the portal, but he is going to find a way. Besides, Will’s a good guy. He’s got to be brought back, even if it makes things more complicated.

This episode had a lot of plot lines to advance, maybe a bit too many. The portal story could have been delayed for another week, but otherwise the truth about Lash and the ACTU’s plans should advance the drama a lot.

By the way, the title comes from “Among Us Hide…the Inhumans”, the title of a story from the Fantastic Four that introduced the Inhumans 50 years ago. It should have a clue to what this episode was really all about: the most dangerous Inhuman of all, still hiding in plain sight and looking for others like him.

Next week: Can Dr. Lash keep his cover, even after he discovers someone knows?
