It’s been a long time since people experienced Adventure Time in the Land of Ooo, with a boy named Finn and his magical dog Jake. There were some stories about a girl called Fionna and her magical cat Cake. They were apparently fan fiction.

HBO’s streaming service, Max, will revive Adventure Time this summer with Fionna and Cake the cat (the alternate versions of Finn and Jake from the Cartoon Network series). The trailer released on YouTube shows Fionna living a dull live in the real world until someone from another reality is threatening her.

It also shows Simon, the former Ice King, dealing with serious stuff and how that hidden demon may return.
Many characters from the old show will also make appearances, but not as people remember them from the old show.

Showrunner Adam Muto spoke to reporters at the Hilton Bayfront Thursday afternoon. He says it’s been an unlikely journey since the show ended in 2018. “It’s just managed to keep going through, you know, different cancellations,” he said. “Fionna and Cake were popular enough with fans that it made sense to do that.”
He said Finn and Jake had their story, and wanted to explore their alternate versions more.

He also said the show was special because it look at complex stories. Most of the season, will be about Fionna and Cake trying to figure out who’s after them.

Muto also says it won’t suffer from the multiverse genre that’s been popular lately. “We have already kind of established a multiverse within the world within the show,” he says, “so we wanted to kind of see how Fionna and Cake connect to that.”

Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake premieres with two episodes on Max starting August 31st. Then, two episodes will air weekly through September 28th.
