Whedon fans know how frustrating it is to wait for a network or studio (coughFOXcough) to continue a series that fans are willing to pay to see?   And how wonderful when talent doesn’t wait, and makes their own projects, with the goal of being picked up by networks? [VeronicaMarsEnvy]

Jane Espenson’s goal for Husbands was to be picked up by a network (can presently been seen on CWSeed ). Other projects were made to be sold directly to fans, such as Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog , Felicia Day’s webseries The Guild (which grew into  the webchannel Geek and Sundry),  Dichen Lachman’s Whedon-talent packed film Lust For Love and the presently being produced Con Man by Alan Tudyk and PJ Haamas.

The Star Trek: Renegades project was produced as a series pilot with the hope that CBS would pick up the independent online series and put Star Trek back on the network.   Star Trek talent involved are  Tim Russ (Star Trek: Voyager), Nichelle Nichols (Star Trek), Walter Koenig (Star Trek),  and Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager),

Sky Conway...On August 1, 2015 the premiere of Star Trek: Renegades screened at The Crest Theater in Westwood, CA.

Support these type of projects by buying the DVD/Blu-Ray when it comes out.

And if you’re in Las Vegas this week, check out  Creation Entertainment’s 5-Day Star Trek Convention. In my humble opinion, for what you get on a daily basis without having to stand in a Hall H type line to get a guaranteed seat, it’s worth the price.
