‘Avengers’ Earns $18.7 Million in Midnights, Bests ‘Dark Knight’ (and got my $$ too)

Joss Whedon’s 3D tentpole breaks records for a superhero pic; overseas, it has already crossed $300 million according to The Hollywood Reporter

Disney and Marvel Studios’ The Avengers earned $18.7 million in Thursday midnight runs, a record for a superhero title and the eighth best of all time.  Only three other films have hit $150 million or more since Spider-Man in 2008: this year’s The Hunger Games ($152.5 million), The Dark Knight ($158.4 million) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 ($169.2 million).

I attended, along with some of the Whedonopolis and Fandom Charities staff, the midnight screening at the AMC Burbank 16.  All 16 screens were Avengers, three in 3D. All sold out.  Click thru for more info plus an ABCNews video report from our location.

Joss Is Getting Around, Thanks to The Avengers

Unlike most of the interviews and writeups about Joss, how he’s new at this and not well known, this writer gets why we follow The Man’s work.  He does too, "As T-shirt slogans go, it doesn’t get more direct than this: "Joss Whedon is my master now."

Comments by fansite editors, talent who has worked with him and even Rhonda Wilcox, a professor of English at Gordon College, wrote "Why Buffy Matters: The Art of Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Fighting the Forces: What’s at Stake for Buffy The Vampire Slayer, of SlayerLit and Slayage: The Journal of the Whedon Studies Association

Why I’m No Longer Worried About Comic-Con Moving to Anaheim

As attendance at San Diego Comic Con has grown to it’s maximum of 125,000 attendees (not counting guests, press and exhibitors), rumblings have been heard of how it should move to a location that can handle more people so more tickets can be sold.  The three cities mentioned most often are Los Angeles, Las Vegas… and Anaheim.   Click through…….
