We’re only three episodes in and already the stakes are higher than they’ve ever been. I’m not sure which storyline has me more nervous or anxious, but I am worried about all of the characters right now.

FP (Skeet Ulrich) and Alice (Mädchen Amick) blew their cover when they outed themselves for playing the game, granted the farm did that for Alice. What are they so afraid of Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) finding? Bughead is just trying to get to the truth and stop other kids from dying. Clearly, the game is bad but there has to be something deeper to it for FP and Alice to so desperately want to keep it from their kids. If this was real life, I would totally understand, but these parents have been through a lot with their kids. Alice covered up a murder with Betty and FP made his son leader of the Serpents. That’s not your typical parents.

FP and Alice tried to keep the past in the past but now that everyone has a playbook, their secrets and the other parents’ secrets are going to come out.

I was upset with Jug for taking a drink from the chalice. That was a pretty risky move that could have ended with him dead. Even if it did get him the rules of the game.

Jug is definitely better at going undercover than Betty is. She’s too overzealous with her questions. She’s discovered right away. If she could have observed the farm a little bit and played the long game, she might have gotten some answers. It wouldn’t have given her any answers to the mystery, but at least she might have had a better understanding of what was happening with her mom and sister.

While Bughead are trying to solve the town’s mystery, Veronica (Camila Mendes) is finally opening the speakeasy, and it’s not all easy. Her dad is trying every which way he can to get to his her, through the Ghoulies and the Sheriff. She’s not having it, and went to Jug for help and instead, found Toni (Vanessa Morgan) and Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch). While their plan wasn’t a bad one, I think Veronica should have never warned her dad before sending the pictures to the FBI. Maybe it hasn’t come to the FBI yet, but now she has no leverage on him.

I’m not sure what Hiram’s (Mark Consuelos) plan is. Archie (K.J. Apa) is gone, for now, but he’s still got it out for his daughter. I don’t think we’ve seen the end of Hiram’s meddling.

Archie is dealing with the most right now. First with solitude for three or more weeks. I lost count at one point. Then with actually becoming the new Maddog. He let himself be beaten up to give the Warden and the guards a show. He still won the fight but not before he was nice and bloody.

It broke my heart to see Archie throw the rum bottle through the bars and tear up his cell. Each time picturing Hiram. Not all hope is lost. Maddog left Archie a little something, a pickaxe. Now he’s going to find a way to escape. I have mixed feelings about this plan. Yes, I want him away from these horrible people but life on the run is no way to live either.

We finally got more of Choni this week. Still not enough, though. I’ve always thought that the writers should utilize Cheryl more. She’s a great character and definitely a scene stealer every time. Why the writers don’t use her more, I have no idea. Toni is very much the same, especially with Cheryl by her side. Hopefully, this is just the beginning, and we can see more of them.
