It’s been a long process, but Joss Whedon’s return to TV is finally coming.
HBO announced Tuesday that The Nevers will be coming in April to the channel and HBO Max. It’s about a group of women in the final years of the Victorian era who have developed unusual powers. They are known as the Touched, and the event happened three years before.
Of course, the elite (and men, mostly) are terrified by this, because these women have powers that mock God in their view. One woman can produce fire while another can freeze things.

Defending them are Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a widow who is an excellent fighter, and Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), an inventor. Naturally, the elite doesn’t like them either.
In any case, these special women will find themselves in a mission that may change the world.
The 90-second trailer, linked here, provides a taste of what the women can do, and how the elite is calmly terrified. The cast also includes Olivia Williams, who was part of Whedon’s last TV project, Dollhouse.

The show has been getting some buzz, especially after Whedon decided to leave the show because of what he called “unprecedented challenges” of the past year including the coronavirus and controversy over his involvement with Justice League. The first season will have ten episodes, and production wrapped last October. Six episodes that were produced by Whedon will air starting in April. After that, episodes that will be made by new showrunner Philippa Goslett will air at a later date. It’ll be interesting how this will affect the story.
