This past Thursday, the nominations for the 2017 Emmys were announced in Hollywood. While most looked at the major categories, some big surprises emerged in the “Short Form Series” section.

Con Man, about Wray Nerely, an actor who’s trying to improve his career after being in a sci-fi series that got cancelled too soon, snagged two acting nominations. One went to star, writer and co-creator Alan Tudyk, who plays Nerely, while the other went to Mindy Sterling, who plays his agent, Bobbi. She also got another for secs and EXECS.

This is impressive news for a show that started as a crowd-funded show and wound up at Comic-ConHQ.com last year.

Also, in the “Best Short Form Comedy or Drama Series” category, Agents of SHIELD‘s spinoff, “Slingshot”, about what Agent Elena “Yo-Yo” Rodriguez did between seasons three and four, will be competing against “Brown Girls” and spinoff shows from Broad City, Fear the Walking Dead and Better Call Saul.

The Emmy awards will be given away September 16th and 17th in Los Angeles.

By the way, Con Man will have a panel at Comic-Con on Friday, July 21st at 2:45 PM at Ballroom 20. It was promoted as a “TBA panel” from SyFy, so let the rumors begin.
