Though the fifth season of The Walking Dead is still a few days away from its premiere, AMC has announced that the popular show has been renewed for a sixth season. Currently, The Walking Dead is the #1 show on television in the coveted demographic of adults 18-49 and the most highly-rated show in the history of cable. In the sixth season, Scott M. Gimple will return as the showrunner and executive producer of The Walking Dead, with Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero, and Tom Luse also being executive producers.

AMC president Charlie Collier shared,

In addition, AMC recently announced that a pilot has been ordered for a potential companion series to The Walking Dead. The series will be based on a new story and new characters from Robert Kirkman.

This Sunday, October 12, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, the fifth season of The Walking Dead will premiere, and will be followed by a live season premiere of Talking Dead at 10 p.m. This week’s guest will be Scott M.
