Joss Whedon at Comic ConIt was a year ago that Joss Whedon fans were awaiting the premiere of his take on Much Ado About Nothing. Next month, his supernatural romance, In Your Eyes, will premiere during the Tribeca Film Festival.

The movie is the second from his Bellwether Pictures company. He wrote the script, and Brin Hill (Won’t Back Down, Battle of the Year) will direct. This is how the film festival describes it on its website, along with a photo of a scene.

East Coast housewife Rebecca (Zoe Kazan) lives a comfortable, sheltered life, but she always knew there was something special about herself. Charismatic ex-con Dylan (Michael Stahl-David) has paid his debt to society and is ready for a fresh start in New Mexico, including a burgeoning flirtation with local good-time-gal Donna (Nikki Reed). When the two polar opposites realize they are strangely connected, an utterly unique metaphysical romance begins in TFF alum Brin Hill’s sweet and smart film, which star Zoe Kazan aptly described as “Joss Whedon does Nicholas Sparks.”

Details have been sketchy since the project was announced, although Whedon has this comment from an article in Screenrant last August:

When I wrote In Your Eyes, I didn’t have the wherewithal (or the moxie) to make it without an established production house. I believe, as I did then, that it’s a pretty timeless romance, and now, with the creation of Bellwether Pictures (and Brin Hill’s elegant, passionate take on the piece), I have the opportunity to prove it. (I also have a 37% increase in moxie.) I love this team and I can’t wait to see them bring In Your Eyes to life.

The Tribeca Film Festival runs from April 16th to 27th. Tickets go on sale to the general public next Monday. For more information, go to tribecafilm.com/festival.
