Actress Tricia Helfer will be honored for her support for local animal rescue programs during a special musical event in Los Angeles celebrating cats. And you can join her.

Kitty Bungalow Charm School for Wayward Cats, a non-profit organization specializing in street cat rescue in the Los Angeles area, will present A CATbaret! – A One-Night Celebrity Musical Celebration of the Alluring Feline next Sunday, August 4th the  Belasco Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.

It’s a night of music devoted to cats, with featured guest stars including Chris Carmack (Nashville); Bethany Joy Lenz; (Dexter; One Tree Hill); Keith David (Cloud  Atlas); Thomas Dekker (Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles); Briana Evigan (Step Up); Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four); Kathryn McCormick (Step Up Revolution); Mindy Sterling (Austin Powers); Shelley Regner; (Pitch Perfect) Olesya Rulin (High School Musical) and Nicole Sullivan (Mad TV).  Celebrity choreographers Tabitha and Napoleon D’umo from So You Think You Can Dance will be doing their famous Love Cats routine with other dancers from the show.

The highlight will be actress Tricia Helfer from Battlestar Galactica receiving the “Cats In White Spats Award” for her efforts in supporting KB CATbaretanimal rescue programs. It will be presented to her by fellow castmate Michael Trucco. Helfer, by the way, will soon appear in the ABC drama Killer Women.

Helfer has campaigned for animal rights and appeared in ads for PETA. Shawn Simons, the Headmistress at Kitty Bungalow, said she met Helfer at the Genesis Awards and discovered she was a cat person.

“Anyone who says animals can’t feel, or don’t have emotions ,has obviously not spent any time with them,” says Helfer. “I have a lot of cats and they are completely unique and different from each other. They react differently to the same situations and they are just the sweetest, most loving, trusting and sometimes aggravating souls.”The proceeds from her online shop go to various cat rescues.

Kitty Bungalow is doing its part to manage the homeless pet population that that finds our city shelters killing 75% of the cats entering the system. On-the-ground rescues are key to lowering this sad statistic.  A CATbaret! will help raise the funds to finance the medical services and supplies it takes to have these cats complete Charm School and find loving homes or ultimately re-integrate into their colonies.  Recently, Kitty Bungalow completed a brand-new charm school facility with first-rate socialization and examination areas for its pupils.

Tickets are available at 35, 75, 100 and 125 dollars apiece. There will be a VIP party afterwards, with tickets at 40 dollars. For more information, visit the Kitty Bungalow website or kittybungalow.org
