Tiny, Fiona and feline friend

Great news! Per the Official Robin Sachs Facebook page, the beloved dogs of Robin Sachs, Fiona and Tiny, have found a new home together on a horse ranch in Montana!

Sachs (Ethan Rayne, BtVS) passed away unexpectedly on February 1 from sudden cardiac arrest at age 61. Days later a plea went out from his friends on Facebook to rescue his beloved dogs from the shelter they were placed in by the police. Luckily, Robin’s ex-wife, Casey, swiftly retrieved the pups from the shelter and temporarily took them in while the search for a new home continued (the cat in the above photo was not up for adoption).

We at Whedonopolis are huge animal lovers (our last charity screening benefited Best Friends Animal Society-Los Angeles) so we wanted to do all we could to help them find them a new home. We were fortunate enough to have retweets from Whedonverse folk with large followings like Felicia Day, Neil Patrick Harris, Juliet Landau, Nancy Holder and Dark Horse Comics to name a few. But the “regular” people who read the tweets and further boosted the signal are just as huge superstars in this endeavor. We would like to thank every single one of you who shared the news of their plight and/or sent an adoption offer. Truly, when Whedonites get together, you can’t stop the signal!

We’re thrilled to be able to share with you the happy news of their adoption. Here’s the message from his Facebook fanpage:

We would like to let everyone know that on Monday, Robin’s stepson Joey and friend Neil will be driving Fiona and Tiny to their new home with Marcella and Ace on a horse ranch in Montana. They have other dogs are [sic] they are all excited to welcome their new brother and sister into their lives.

Thank you to everyone for your help in networking to find a home for the kids and a lifetime of cookies for Marcella and Ace for their compassion and love and generosity of spirit.

Later, his ex-wife, Casey, sent this lovely message to be shared:

I’m very grateful to everyone who worked so hard on behalf of Fiona and Tiny. We’re thrilled to have found them an incredible home with terrific people in an environment that the kids will love and in which they will thrive. Those of you who know Robin know how much his pit bulls meant to him and how much he loved them.

I’d also like to thank everyone for their generous outpouring of love for those of us in Robin’s family and close friends. Your stories and memories of him will be cherished by us and you’ve honored Robin with your laughter and tears.

He is missed and will always be loved and I want you to know that he loved his family, friends and fans with this whole heart as only he could.

Rest in peace, Robin, and know that your kids are going to be fine.

His fanpage asks that you consider making a donation in Robin’s name to California Pit Bull Rescue.

We also urge all of you with non-human dependents to make arrangements for their future in case something happens and you are no longer able to care for them yourself. The Humane Society of the United States has some useful information in their file Providing For Your Pet’s Future Without You.
