Rubies Costume Company: Masters of Disguise

If you’ve ever gone searching online for a Batman, Harry Potter, or Scooby Doo costume, chances are those costumes are made by Rubie’s. How about the time you scoured the shelves of your local Halloween shop for some makeup to look like Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Joker, or even just a good old horrifying zombie? Those are most likely from Rubie’s extensive line as well. I caught up with Howard Beige, the Executive Vice President of Rubie’s at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con to find out a little about what has made his family company such a worldwide success.

SDCC 2010: True Blood

What makes True Blood such a special phenomenon is the relationship between its creators. Never before have I seen a cable series based on a book series with such a camaraderie and mutual respect between its producer and author. Show creator Alan Ball keeps True Blood fresh and unique, its own entity, while also paying full homage to the woman who created the supernatural world of Bon Temps Louisiana, Ms. Charlaine Harris. Similarly, she expressed her opinion that she couldn’t have handed over the rights to her material to a better creative mind than Alan Ball. Season 3 mild spoilers follow.
