When the final season of The Originals began I had no idea where the writers were going to take us. It’s now clear we are headed for one epic final battle.
Spoilers Below
It may have started with an old enemy of Klaus’s (Joseph Morgan) but it’s turned into a battle of the nightwalkers against everyone else, and you have to choose a side. Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) being Vincent, chose to stand with the werewolves. He had no intentions of turning his back on the witches and never realized choosing the werewolves would cost him dearly.
Julie Plec tweeted last week that with five episodes left there are also about as many significant deaths:
After tonight, there are five episodes of #TheOriginals left before the end of it's run. There are about as many significant deaths coming. I know you're mourning, and it's going to be hard, but there is some real beauty, love and peace to come too. Buckle up.

Could Ivy (Shiva Kalaiselvan) and Lisina (Alexis Louder) be two of those deaths? They were certainly significant for the community, but were they significant for the fans? I felt Ivy’s death for Vincent and Lisina’s for the werewolves, but for me, other than being stunned by how far the nightwalkers are taking this, these deaths didn’t sting. That makes me think that the significant deaths have yet to come. We should probably all have the tissues ready for when The Originals returns on July 11.
If the deaths didn’t make you cry this week, Freya’s (Riley Voelkel) proposal to Keelin (Christina Marie Moses) was sure to get your eyes watering. Keelin almost died and that made Freya finally pop the question with the ring she’s had for two years! Freya has put family first for so long, and now she’s putting herself first. The question is, will they live happily ever after, with four episodes left, there’s no telling what will happen.
The questions on everyone’s mind was how would Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) handle the Hollow. The answer is, not well. I’m sure her anger at Elijah (Daniel Gillies) is not helping that evil festering inside of her. On the upside, for us, we are getting see Danielle struggle with not only her character’s mom’s death but also how to deal with the voices inside of her. It makes me excited to see her take on the lead in her new show, Legacies.
Elijah is trying to figure out how to deal with his pain of losing Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin). He may or may not be going about it the right way. If there is a right way. He decided to let Declan (Torrance Coombs) talk to him but that backfired because he figured out Elijah was the man that broke Hayley’s heart, and he discovered their secret. Maybe Elijah should have just compelled him from the beginning. The only thing I liked about this scene was the way Elijah said this is what Hayley would have wanted. Declan was cute but the writers didn’t give us enough about him for us to care that much about him.
We have a couple week to prepare ourselves for what’s to come. The Originals is taking a little break and will be back on July 11.
