This episode took a similar tone to the early days of The Vampire Diaries. It was all about saving the damsel in distress. This time being Caroline, instead of Elena, but things take a turn for the worst as Damon and Stefan were trying to save Caroline. Plus a lot of things are revealed in the future and from the past, leaving us with more questions.
*******Spoilers Below ******
Caroline is not having a great season so far. She gets kidnapped at the end of the first episode and staked at the end of second! And lets take a minute to cry about the fact that Caroline and Stefan are not together in the future. She’s engaged to someone else and she never wants to hear the name Stefan Salvatore again. What happens to them in the next three years to make her feel that way? It was a bad tease to make us wonder if Stefan and Caroline were together in the future. We also know that things in Mystic Falls are not any better in the future. I don’t know about you, but I’m not looking forward to the future.
The Vampire Diaries usually flashes back in time, not forward in time. This is definitely a whole new direction the show is taking. From the premiere and the second episode, we know that things don’t look good in the future for Caroline, Stefan and Damon, but that’s getting a little ahead of ourselves. Right now we are dealing with saving Caroline.
Stefan was not happy with his brother for upsetting their mother. Damon tried to go in and clean up his mess, but Lily isn’t budging and she’s signed over the deed of the house to Matt. What a genius play. Stefan and Damon can’t rescue Caroline, if they can’t go in the house.
Bonnie is feeling a lot of guilt over letting the Heretics out and for getting Caroline kidnapped. Damon is taking the fall for all of it, because it’s classic Damon. Bonnie then has the idea of stopping Matt’s heart, so Caroline can be saved.
Things get a little complicated with her rescue plan though. Earlier in the episode Alaric finally confided in Bonnie about his plan. He wants to bring back his wife with a rock that’s filled with a lot of evil, called the Phoenix stone. Bonnie saw a deadly vision and wanted Alaric to destroy it, but he’s not ready to give up on seeing his wife again, just yet.
While Bonnie was stopping Matt’s heart, she had the same vision again and passed out. She woke up just under the wire to bring Matt back. She had told him from the beginning that his heart could be stopped for six minutes without any lasting affect, but he was only supposed to be out for 10 seconds. He was not happy with the mess up.
I was very worried when Matt was going down. I mean what could possibly go wrong? Luckily he seems to be fine.
Stefan was able to get into the house, but there were some complications. Valerie had laced Caroline’s skin with vervain and it appeared to be to stop the other girls from torturing her, but maybe her plan was much more devious than that. Stefan couldn’t carry Caroline out and she couldn’t walk out.
Damon was supposed to be there for back up, but Lily had taken Elena’s body. She was taking her son’s toys to get back at them for taking her eldest son from her. Damon had another damsel in distress to save. In the end neither boys got their girls back. The deed is now in the maid’s name and Stefan got magically thrown out of the house, while Caroline was invited back in.
Don’t fret. Damon has another master plan. There’s still one more Heretic out there and Damon is going to use him to get their girls back. What could possibly go wrong?
I wasn’t so surprised last week when Enzo chose Lily’s side, but I was surprised by the reason. He doesn’t want to be her son, he wants to be her boyfriend. So when Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder joked about Enzo kissing their mother at San Diego Comic Con, they may have not been joking too much. I don’t think I ship these two, but I’m very intrigued.
Alaric was supposed to destroy the Phoenix Stone, but instead he lies to Bonnie and uses it to almost bring some random guy back from the dead. Good call though, test it out on someone else before you use it on your wife. But what are the side affects from bringing someone back from the dead? Jeremy had some side affects, but this is with evil magic.
I want to know more about how Stefan knows Valerie. He wrote about her in his journal in 1863. Could Stefan have had another love of his life? Could this have anything to do with why she doesn’t want to hear his name anymore? The biggest question here is, is Caroline still alive? Don’t be killing off Caroline, just as Elena was written off into a deep sleep.
What do you think Stefan’s connection to Valerie is and what do you think happens to Stefan and Caroline in the future? Let me know in the comments below.
