We caught up with the cast and crew of the new sci fi thriller for The CW, The Tomorrow People, while at San Diego Comic-Con. The CW gives new meaning to the word ‘homegrown’ with this one by not only mining talent behind the scenes with showrunners Greg Berlanti and Julie Plec, but also keeping it in the family with the series star, Robbie Amell, who happens to be the cousin of The CW’s Arrow star, Stephen Amell.
The story for the show revolves around an average teenager who discovers he is part of a genetically advanced race of people who are being hunted down by a paramilitary group. Executive Producer Phil Klemmer, Director Danny Cannon, and cast members Robbie Amell (Stephen Jameson), Peyton List (Cara) and Mark Pellegrino (Dr. Jedikiah Price) sat down with us and talked about this exciting new series and how they each became involved.
Director Danny Cannon and Executive Producer Phil Klemmer talk about the genesis of The Tomorrow People and the show that inspired this updated version, working with Greg Berlanti, superheroes, X-Men, the emotional journey arc of the first season and finding the lead for the show, Robbie Amell.
Robbie Amell and Peyton List talk about the audition process, the appeal of the people in The Tomorrow People and bringing reality to a sci fi story.
Peyton List discusses the craziness of pilot season, what part of herself she brings to her character and working with special effects and fight scenes.
Mark Pellegrino chats about his character, Dr. Jedikiah Price, and exploring the grey areas of his personality, his affinity for dark characters and his love for comic books.
The Tomorrow People premieres on The CW on Wednesday, October 9th at 9pm EST after Arrow.
