This week, Castle fans got a double dose of Castle with a special episode on Sunday followed by it’s normally scheduled episode on Monday.  Sunday’s episode focused on Castle being a witness, or so it seems, to a murder at a house party.  Monday’s episode was exciting in that we got to see Castle and Beckett working together again, thanks to a fan of Castle’s books who wanted to see Nikki Heat & her partner in action.

03In “Witness for the Prosecution,” the episode begins with Castle witnessing a murder at a party where he was doing a reading from one of his new books.  He gets called to be a witness in the murder trial, and gets slaughtered by the defense attorney, Caleb Brown (Christopher Polaha).  In case you forgot, Caleb Brown is someone Beckett is looking into with ties to LokSat, the group she is investigating.  Speaking of Beckett’s investigation, on the one hand I’m glad she’s stopped her ridiculous separation from Castle, but on the other, I wish this whole shady investigation business was over and done with.  It still seems like she’s being a little secretive with Castle, but hopefully no more drama comes out of her investigations with Vikram (Sunkrish Bala).

CASTLE - "Witness for the Prosecution" - Castle finally gets his day in court when he takes the stand as the key witness to a murder from five months ago. But when new information suddenly arises, he and Beckett must race against the clock to prevent a miscarriage of justice, on "Castle," SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 14 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Scott Everett White) CLARE GRANT, KRISTOFFER POLAHA, STANA KATIC, NATHAN FILLION, CHRISTOPHER B. DUNCAN, JONATHAN BRAYCaleb destroys Castle on the witness stand, leaving Castle reeling and wondering if he actually saw what he thought he saw or if there is more to this.  Castle is up to his usual antics and purposely gets himself thrown in jail so he can ask the murder suspect some questions.  You know how they always say it was the spouse?  Well, in usual Castle fashion, he has an epiphany and in the ends puts it together that it was actually the husband who killed her after finding out about her affair.  In this case, it really was the spouse who dunnit! Caleb seems like a good lawyer out to do right by his clients, but Beckett is hoping that this has gotten her a step closer to see what he is really up to and all about.

recaps-castleMonday’s episode instead takes a look into the murder of a “diplobrat;” the son of a foreign diplomat & how diplomatic immunity can plague a murder investigation!  The Russian Consulate requests that one of their own shadow the investigation, which Beckett begrudgingly goes along with.  For viewers, this is a good thing because the member of the Russian security team, Visily Zhirov (Nick E. Tarabay), ends up being pretty hilarious!  He is a big fan of the Nikki Heat novels and he pulls some strings to get Beckett and Castle working together again.

Castle 811 4Visily seems to be down for doing things a little more Nikki Heat/Castle style than by the books, so this leads to him and Castle going off and doing some interesting investigative work.  They help prevent a murder at a consulate party, but it ends up that they prevented the murder of the bad guy himself!  In the end, they figure out a foreign diplomat murdered his own son (not biological we find out), to prevent him from ratting him out for being up to no good.  There isn’t much Beckett and Castle can do because he has diplomatic immunity, but Visily says that he has it under control and will be making sure he is punished upon returning to Russia.  So it seems like the good guys won in the end!
