Our Legends continue to develop this week  dividing again into multiple units.   Some trying to continue their pursuit against Vandal Savage, some trying to help a dying Kendra, and a third team trying to change their history.

*** SPOILER ALERT ***

LoT 1.3 Sara Rip 1Our team is still in 1975 because the Waverider is damaged and Kendra’s injuries from last episode couldn’t take a time jump without it being fatal.

Rip Hunter is at a loss at what the next move is to try to take down Savage, and it seems that he and Oliver Queen have the same guilt complex.  Luckily for Rip, Sara has had a few years dealing with such personality flaws.  She is also becoming, more and more, the strategist of the team and a confidant to Rip. Sara could be Rip’s greatest asset on this team, bringing with her both the League of Assassin’s training, as well as Oliver Queen’s heroism.  Tonight, though, Rip also was privileged to Sara’s darker side, her blood lust, which she is finding nearly impossible to control.lot-blood-ties-167739

I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone that Sara is quickly becoming a field leader in the Legends, but along with her, Captain Cold and even Professor Stein are the other two with standout personalities to lead various units.  Obviously Stein would be more suited to a team not in the field, but he’s not only brilliant, but he seems to know how to bring out the best in others; first Jax and now also Ray.  Snark is similar to Stein in that he knows how to motivate others. It’s obvious he keeps Heatwave from blowing up everything or, as we saw this week, hurting Rip.

It is more than that though. Leonard cares more for what is going on than he admits.  In a very short time, it is obvious that he sees his comrades as his responsibilities to take care of.  Also, as we saw tonight, not just the team, but also his family. Snark has become one of my favorites to watch.  Part of his charm is not knowing what he will be doing, but learning why it’s important to him.  The heist was so much more than just stealing an emerald, it was about changing his father’s timeline for the better and, in doing that, protecting his family in the past.  Unfortunately, Snark learns time doesn’t always work  that way. In fact, his father still ends up with the same reality, simply for different reasons.

Legends-of-Tomorrow-103-1-600x410Tonight Stein and Ray worked together to remove the knife fractures from Kendra that, otherwise, would have killed her.  For as much as Palmer works very hard being a superhero, it seems that he is still a novice when times get really tough.  Tonight’s arch with him and Stein was about him using his suit to help Kendra, and how he was having a crisis of believing in himself.  I get that the writers are using each of these stories to let us know about the Legends, I just wished it didn’t make Raymond Palmer someone I question in trusting.DC's Legends of Tomorrow -- "Blood Ties" -- Image LGN103A_0160b.jpg -- Pictured (L-R): Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Wentworth Miller as Leonard Snart/Captain Cold and Dominic Purcell as Mick Rory/Heat Wave -- Photo: Cate Cameron/The CW -- © 2016 The CW Network, LLC. There are obvious stronger personalities with Rip, Sara, Snark and, to a good degree, Stein who are mentoring or keeping under control the rest of the team.  Jax and Kendra are simply new at this, and Ray is still trying to find himself.  Then there is Heatwave who only appears to be there because he follows Snark and maybe in that, there’s his strength in the team.  He didn’t even think twice when Rip and Sara got in over their heads with Savage and his associates.  He was there to back the play of what was started and made sure his team got out alive.

All Rights Reserved. The writers are doing a phenomenal job in making Vandal Savage a villain whom we should fear.  As Sara said, if he was only a man with a long life, that’s nothing, but we are being shown that his association look to him like a god, and tonight we also got to see how he has earned that belief as he was using the blood of Carter’s dead body as the means of extending the lives of those closest to him.  Please notice this wasn’t the first time that Savage has done this, none of his associates were surprised in the ceremony. I wonder
which of these associates we will be seeing in multiple timelines.  Savage did say he was able to extend their lives for one hundred years.

It is interesting that the Legends still remind me of every RPG group I have ever been part of where we have some who want to be the heroes, some who are the rogues, and some who are important not in the middle of the fight.  I thought it was very fitting to have a burial for Carter once they retrieved his body.  Every time it takes time for the party to gel as what we call the CREW currently, and the Legends of Tomorrow is no different.

Also, with the list of DC characters that will be making guest appearances, I suggest we buckle in for an entertaining ride every Thursday night on the CW.
