Defenders of Earthrealm that learned the valuable lesson in waiting for 2011’s Mortal Kombat: Komplete Edition were rewarded for their patience with the announcement of Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition today for the PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, and PC.  Following in the footsteps of its bloody predecessor, this edition of NetherRealm’s collaboration with DC Comics will feature everything that the game has to offer that previously had to be purchased separately via downloadable content, or DLC.  This includes being able to play as Lobo, Batgirl, General Zod, Martian Manhunter, or Zatanna, as well as a special version of Scorpion from the Mortal Kombat universe designed by DC Comics co-publisher Jim Lee.  In addition to having the full roster of fighters with over 40 extra character skins to choose from (for those of you out there that go gaga over that sort of thing) and 60 S.T.A.R. Labs Missions available on-disc, players in North America will also be treated to the game’s official music soundtrack, which features an exclusive track from Jane’s Addiction titled “Another Soulmate.”

While this news is indeed exciting for both NetherRealm and DC Comics fans, it is yet another reminder of how good things come to those who wait. There will always be new games out there that we will find ourselves dying to get our hands on before anybody else, but particularly when it comes to video games nowadays, you can either be an early adopter and pay top dollar for what ends up being the base game and then find yourself shelling out the same amount of cash for supposedly new and extra content, or you can sit tight for a few months and snag the whole kit and caboodle for that initial price tag or less and get the last laugh.  Considering how close the release date for this special edition is to Thanksgiving, be smart and hold out until Black Friday or Cyber Monday to get the best deal possible.

Eagle-eyed fans will note the glaring omission of Nintendo’s Wii U and Microsoft’s Xbox One from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s press release. The reason for this is unclear at this time.  It is possible that there may be some further exclusive content on the way for one or both of these consoles like added functionality to the Wii U’s GamePad or the Kinect on the “Xbone,” but this is doubtful considering that nothing more was released for Mortal Kombat after its you-get-everything edition came out.  Judging from Creative Director Ed Boon’s tweet below, Nintendo nuts like myself might end up being the only ones left out in the cold:

Meanwhile, no word has surfaced yet on the inevitable tenth installment of the Mortal Kombat series.  Aside from the occasional tease from Boon himself, producer Lance Sloane has been the only one to comment publicly in an interview with GamerHub.TV on what is tentatively being called “Mortal Kombat 10,” dropping the hint that the game is planned to be released alongside a new feature film helmed by the creator of the Mortal Kombat Legacy web series Kevin Tancharoen.  Machinima unveiled Mortal Kombat Legacy II last week, following the now-infamous Netflix strategy of releasing all episodes simultaneously.
