I got to sit down and chat with the cast and producers of The CW fan favorite show, Supernatural. This is one of the top shows that brings out the geek girl in me and I was delighted to not only see the usual suspects from the SPN crew, but to finally meet the real Robert Singer (yes, the character of Bobby is named after him).
The highlight of any SDCC trip for me is taking some time to talk to the Supernatural gang – or “My Boys” as I like to call them (just like the millions of Supernatural fans all over the world). Well, this year was no different when I got the opportunity to talk to executive producers Jeremy Carver and the “original Bobby,” Robert Singer – who is friendly, funny and not curmudgeonly at all – and cast members Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester), Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester), Misha Collins (Castiel) and Mark Sheppard (Crowley).
After the emotional finale of Season 8 and its game-changing cliffhanger, the producers and cast talk about what is in store for the brothers Winchester, their friendly resident and now earthbound, angel, Castiel, and their not-so-friendly resident King of Hell, Crowley.
Jeremy Carver chats about “that thing” that Jared wants to talk about, the art of keeping some surprises, Crowley’s humanity, Bobby, Charlie, the Men of Letters and some other returning characters.
Robert Singer chats about his first comic con experience, the importance of the first 3 episodes of the new season, a jaw dropping surprise in the first episode, the return of Charlie and other guest stars, Dean talking to animals, Castiel and the consequences of the brothers choosing each other over the mission.
Jensen Ackles discusses a big secret that Dean is harboring in the new season, bringing back past characters, directing this season, writing and what’s in store for the Winchesters this season.
Jared Padalecki chats about trying to get away from it all, family, the most intense scene to watch after shooting, the possibility of directing and “that thing” coming up this season that he can’t talk about.
Misha Collins chats about the history of Castiel’s wardrobe, playing the human side of Castiel, Wim Wenders’ Wings of Desire, love and sex in Castiel’s future and directing episode 9.17.
Mark Sheppard talks about fallen angels, that pivotal scene for Crowley at the end of last season and the ripple effects of that emotional epiphany for Crowley going forward.
Supernatural airs on The CW and will return for its ninth season on Tuesday, October 8th. You know I’ll be there!
