Juliet Landau has played a lot of roles in her career, from a vampire to a lovelorn woman. Soon she’ll take on a very big role that will get the attention of a lot of Doctor Who fans.
Coming soon: Juliet as Romana the Third

Juliet announced on Twitter this past Sunday that she’ll be part of the Gallifrey audio series created by Big Finish Productions, which makes the Doctor Who audio dramas. This is a spinoff of the Doctor Who series that features Lalla Ward as Romana II, Louise Jameson as Leela and John Leeson as K9. All three characters are familiar to those who saw Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor in the 1970’s and 1980’s.  This link will take you to all the previous volumes in this series.  Romana and Leela are trying to make reforms within the Time Lords and its society, and are faced with conflicts and political intrigue. After starting in 2004, the sixth volume, coming in October, will be its last.

The final series shows the Daleks waging war against Gallifrey and all its alternate realities, and Romana turning to a mysterious woman for help. Landau will play a future incarnation of Romana, but it’s not known yet how she will be part of the story.

Co-Producer Gary Russel says the crew was excited to add Landau to the story. “The role was always going to be a great one to cast but when we knew we had Juliet aboard, it made it extra-special!” he said. “Putting aside my long-time fanboy Buffy/Angel geeking-out moments in studio, it was brilliant to discover just how much Juliet immersed herself in the role. Believe me, she’d done her homework – there wasn’t a planet or character she didn’t know how to pronounce or wasn’t aware of the back-story to. She made the days in studio so much fun.” In the picture below, you can see Louise Jameson (Leela)  on the left, Juliet in the center, and Lalla Ward (Romana II) on the right.

Juliet will also appear alongside Lalla Ward and Terry Molloy (best known as Davros in the Who-verse) in January’s Companion Chronicles release, Luna Romana, written by Matt Fitton. This is part of a special trilogy in honor of Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary, involving a dangerous stowaway.

Landau will be quite busy this year. She’ll also star in the world premiere of the play, The Bells of West 87th, with James Marsters, her former co-star on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, this fall in Los Angeles. Here’s a link to that story.
