Nerd HQ is back during Comic-Con with a series of special panels and a new home… Petco Park.
Founded by actor Zachary Levi (Chuck, Tangled), Nerd HQ has presented the most popular sci-fi stars in special panels. After holding panels for the past two years at Jolt’n Joe’s, near the Convention Center, this year’s panels will be at a 250-seat location inside Petco Park. “With the move to Petco Park, we can bring fans an even bigger, more dynamic experience during Nerd HQ 2013.” he said. “Moving to the ballpark is a major step in the growth of Nerd HQ and will allow us to expand our tradition of offering exclusive access to new games, technology, and the opportunity for intimate conversations with some of the Hollywood’s most influential celebrities and creatives.” All proceeds from the panels will benefit Operation Smile, a charity devoted to providing free medical care to poor children with facial deformities around the world. Last year’s panels raised about 140 thousand dollars.
Most of this year’s panels sold out within minutes, but more are scheduled. Here’s the list of announced panels so far:
July 18th
9 AM: A Conversation with Psych, including cast members James Roday and Dule Hill, Steve Franks, Kelly Kulchak, and Chris Henze. This will happen just hours after a special preview of its musical episode.
4 PM: A panel about the movie The Maze Runner, including star Dylan O’Brien, director Wes Ball, producer Wyck Godfrey, and author James Dashner. It’s about a group of boys who find themselves in a mysterious maze, with no memory of how they got there. The film will premiere next February. Tickets are still available.
5 PM: A preview of the third season of PBS Masterpiece: Sherlock. It will include co-creators, executive producers and writers Stephen Moffat and Mark Gatniss, and producer Sue Vertue
July 19th
12:15: The cast of I, Frankenstein including Aaron Eckhart, Yvonne Strahovski, director Stuart Beattie, and Kevin Grevioux, whose graphic novel inspired this movie. This time Adam, Frankenstein’s creation, finds himself in a battle between demons and gargoyles who want the secret to Adam’s immortality.
3 PM: The cast from BBC America’s Orphan Black, including Tatiana Maslany, Jordan Gavaris and Dylan Bruce. Fans are hoping to get a clue on what will happen next year.
4:15 PM: A panel on 300: Rise of an Empire including Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green and Rodrigo Santoro. Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, and told in the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster “300,” this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield on the seas Greek general Themistokles attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. Tickets are still available.
5:30 PM True Blood’s Joe Manganiello will discuss what will be coming up on the classic HBO show
6:30 PM A panel on Syfy’s show Haven, including cast members Emily Rose, Lucas Bryant, Eric Balfour, Adam Copeland (aka “Edge” from the WWE), and new cast member Colin Ferguson
July 20th
10 AM Joss Whedon talks about Avengers 2, Much Ado About Nothing, and anything else fans want to know
11:30 AM The Thrilling Adventure Hour’s cast will talk about its future, including a graphic novel, a new podcast and a concert film. Cast members who may appear will include Ben Acker and Ben Blacker, Molly C. Quinn, Paul F. Tompkins, Paget Brewster, Autumn Reeser, John DiMaggio, Marc Evan Jackson, Mark Gagliardi, Craig Cacwkoski, Hal Lublin, Annie Savage, Aaron Ginsburg, and more! 2 PM The Doctor Who panel, which sold out in literally seconds. The panel includes Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman and producer Stephen Moffat, while fans hope to find out about the 50th anniversary special..and how John Hurt can be “The Doctor”.
However, it’s not over yet. Nerd HQ will be selling tickets to see Zachary Levi, Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly), Seth Green (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Robot Chicken) and Jared Padalecki (Supernatural).
