Next fall will be good news for Whedon fans. A Slayer returns to TV, while a long-planned TV show based on SHIELD has received the greenlight. More after the jump…

As expected for quite a while, ABC has added Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD to its fall lineup. It will be officially unveiled in next Tuesday’s upfronts in New York, but a promo is planned for Sunday during the season finale of Once Upon a Time.

SHIELD has been a family affair for Joss. He directed the pilot, while brother Jed Whedon and his wife Maurissa Tancharoen co-wrote the episode.  It features Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson (although we still aren’t sure how, considering what happened in The Avengers) , Ming Na as Agent Melinda May, Ian De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Gemma Simmons, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, and Chloe Bennet as Skye.  J.August Richards, best known as Gunn on Angel, will also be part of the cast.

Sarah Michelle Gellar

Meanwhile, our favorite Slayer has a new job…advertising executive working with her dad.

CBS will show Crazy Ones, with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Robin Williams as father and daughter partners in an ad agency. It’s a big return to TV for both. David E. Kelley serves as executive producer.

There’s good news for other Whedon alumni. As expected, Castle with Nathan Fillion will return on ABC, as will Suburgatory with Alan Tudyk. Harry Lennix, who was Boyd Langton on Dollhouse, will be on NBC’s The Blacklist, about a notorious criminal (James Spader) who will agree to give up everyone who he has worked with—if a certain FBI agent works with him.

It had been reported that ABC has given The Neighbors, which features Doug Jones from the classic Buffy episode “Hush”,  another season. However, that renewal has been put on “hold”. That might mean it’ll be back in January. We’ll keep you posted
