Last year, ABC Family Channel showed part 1 of the Fallen trilogy, based on the books written by Thomas Sniegoski (co-author with Christopher Golden of the first run of Angel comics, in addition to other tie-in novels to the Buffy/Angelverse) and this year they showed the rest of the story, in a trilogy that took up all three nights this past weekend.

First, a definition –

Magic Realism: Artistic genre in which magical elements appear in an otherwise realistic setting. Amongst the films that belong in this category are Amélie, Tim Burton’s Big Fish, and Pan’s Labyrinth.

Today we reach into my box and pick up some DVD’s which have a Buffy connection. Recently, two animated Hellboy movies were released as part of a plan keep fans tied over until the release of Hellboy 2, which is currently shooting in Hungary. Now, in the original Hellboy movie, David Hyde Pierce did the voice of Abraham (Abe) Sapien while Buffy alumni Doug Jones played the actual physical character. However, in the animated movies, Jones does the voice of Abe, and it’s through this connection that we bring you quick reviews of both Hellboy Animated movies, “Sword of Storms” and “Blood & Iron.”

So I’ll admit it, before I got into Buffy and Angel, I NEVER knew that former actors on the show had musical side-projects. So when my girlfriend (who got me into both shows) told me about bands like “Kane” (headed by Angel’s Christian Kane) and “Common Rotation” (which includes Buffy’s Adam Busch), I must admit to being a bit trepidatious. Could actors also really be that good at music, I asked myself?
