Earlier this month the final five episodes of Caprica were finally released and devoured by the remaining small, yet rabid, fan base. Initially available only on the Caprica Season 1.5 DVD set, SyFy aired all five episodes, back-to-back, a few weeks after. It was an unceremonious ending for such a poignant and intellectual series that got stronger with every passing episode, even till the bitter end.
Things have been rough for “Angel” recently. He’s been responsible for sending Los Angeles to Hell, his title series at IDW was burdened with some seriously awful storylines over the past year, and things went especially bad in the end over at Dark Horse’s Buffy Season Eight. That’s why it feels so good to say that our beloved vampire with a soul is getting his due in his self-titled series with an exciting trip to the future that feels fresh and fun!
Another season of Buffy is coming to a close and, as with all Whedon creations, there is always some pain and loss for those characters we love. It’s time to remember those who have given it all in this season’s good fight.
To be honest, I was somewhat let down by Buffy Season Seven. There were many great build-ups and a great Big Bad, but, when we reached the last few episodes, I was worried as to how the ending to my favorite show would fare. There I was, episodes away from the end, and it just didn’t feel like the end. Whedon was busy with both Firefly and Angel, and, while I thought highly of his writing team, many episodes seemed to have strong yet poorly-executed ideas. Luckily for me, Whedon stepped in for the finale and was able to give me nearly everything I wanted in the hour. Despite its shaky path, the season ended with a swan dive.
I had similar feelings about the “Last Gleaming” arc in Season Eight. While many loose threads remained, issue #39 started to bring the plot together and provided some true “Whedon” moments that will stand in Buffy-verse history forever!
Buffy #38 leaves us with more questions than answers. With Season Eight only two issues away from its final conclusion, we are certainly in the thick of it! One thing is certain: the fate of our heroes is only getting worse!
