Chuck it Out – CHUCK Gets Full Season Pickup

NBC show, CHUCK, gets a full season order according to Nellie Andreeva at Deadline/TV .  The fan favorite (especially this fan) show had already received an initial order of 9 shows and looks like it may have gotten an additional 11 show pickup (let’s hope).  This would be an increase in episodes from last seasons 18.

This season has Chuck focusing on a search for his mother who left the family years ago with no word.  All signs point to Mom being a "spy" type just like dear old Dad, but the question is whose side is she on.  In a stroke of perfect casting, TERMINATOR favorite, Linda Hamilton, is playing Chuck’s mysterious maternal figure.  Whedonopolis favorite, Adam Baldwin’s character of Casey, has also gained a family connection this season with the addition of a long lost daughter, Laura (Katie Cleary) who is being romanced by, of all people, Morgan (Joshua Gomez).  Ellie (Sarah Lancaster) and Awesome (Ryan McPartlin) are expecting their first child.  All of that plus a sleak new Buy More that is now run by the government as a cover for our spy friends while our wacky Buy More crew is still in the dark.  How could you not give all that a full season!?

Other shows receiving pickups include THE EVENT, LAW AND ORDER: LOS ANGELES, OUTSOURCED and CHASE, which received a full season pickups.  JJ Abrams show, UNDERCOVERS, received an order for 4 more episodes.

Check after the cut for some interview clips with the cast and producers from this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

Supernatural – "Live Free or Twi Hard"

Well, this could be a Buffy/Angel fan’s perfect Supernatural episode.  This week, the Winchesters fight against post-apocalyptic monsters takes a turn when they encounter some blood-suckers who have taken up residence in a small town (no, not that other CW vampire town — although that would be interesting).  They’ve faced off with vampires before, but this time the blood-sucking gets a little too close for comfort as one of the brothers gets bitten and maybe doomed to a lifetime of nighttime.

It would have been apropos for Ben Edlund to have penned this episode, but this vampire tale it was written by Brett Matthews — who is quite familiar with the Whedonverse in his own right.  In addition to working on Buffy, Angel and Firefly, Brett Matthews also co-wrote the comic miniseries, Those Left Behind , which he co-wrote with the master of all vampire writers, Joss Whedon, was a story that bridged the gap between the Firefly series and the Serentiy movie.

Now with that pedigree, I know one thing for sure — the vamps in this week’s episode should be able to kick the crap out of those sparkly movie franchise vamps.  But heaven (or Castiel, um or Grandpa) help the fanged ones when they sink their teeth into a Winchester.

Check out the clips, previews and photos we have from this week’s episode, after the cut…

Spike #1 Review: Brian Lynch is the new Joss!

As I’m sure you can tell from the title of the review, I’m quite happy with the first issue of the new IDW Spike series written by Brian Lynch and with art by Franco Urru (team After The Fall!). Maybe I go too far by calling Lynch the “new” Joss, but his handling of “Spike” as a character is on par with the master! This is exactly what IDW needed to wash away the bad taste from the recent Angel issues, allowing the creators to move toward the cohesive Buffy-verse that the WB and UPN never considered attempting.

SUPERNATURAL – WEEKEND AT BOBBY’S

Not only is it a big night for Smallville (celebrating its 200th episode) on The CW, but it is a big night for Supernatural as well.  This week’s episode brings us a Bobby-centric story, an awesome guest star (fan favorite Mark Sheppard) and the long awaited (for me, at least) directorial debut of Jensen Ackles.

Check out all of the good stuff we have on the highly anticipated episode after the cut…
