Nicholas Brendon in THE SANTALAND DIARIES

One performance added Sunday, Dec. 19th at 5pm – Now playing until December 19, 2010 at the Stella Adler Theatre in Hollywood, CA   www.TheBlank.com

Nicholas Brendon (Criminal Minds, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) brings his critically-acclaimed performance of THE SANTALAND DIARIES back to The Blank this holiday season. “SANTALAND” is an outrageously funny one-man play (from NPR’s David Sedaris) about the author’s experiences as an unemployed writer taking a job as an elf at Macy’s. At first the job is simply humiliating, but once the thousands of visitors start pouring through Santa’s workshop, he becomes battle weary and bitter, occasionally taking out his frustrations on the children and parents alike.

For those who like a little spice with their Christmas sugar, this tale of mass marketing, stressed out sales clerks, drunk Santas, screaming kids and the general insanity of the holidays is hilarious, witty, sardonic and unpredictable; mercilessly cutting through the Christmas spirit to point out what crazy things we do as human beings during the holidays.

A Review Of Buffy #39: The End of the Road

To be honest, I was somewhat let down by Buffy Season Seven.  There were many great build-ups and a great Big Bad, but, when we reached the last few episodes, I was worried as to how the ending to my favorite show would fare. There I was, episodes away from the end, and it just didn’t feel like the end. Whedon was busy with both Firefly and Angel, and, while I thought highly of his writing team, many episodes seemed to have strong yet poorly-executed ideas. Luckily for me, Whedon stepped in for the finale and was able to give me nearly everything I wanted in the hour. Despite its shaky path, the season ended with a swan dive.
I had similar feelings about the “Last Gleaming” arc in Season Eight. While many loose threads remained, issue #39 started to bring the plot together and provided some true “Whedon” moments that will stand in Buffy-verse history forever!
