Imagine you had an hour to sit down with Joss Whedon and pick his brain (in a curious, non-zombie kind of way). Screenwriter Jeffrey Berman is taking that hour for you.
Oh, the weather outside was frightful – but that didn’t stop fans of Joss Whedon from attending the Paley Center for Media’s screening of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog in New York City on the Friday before Christmas. Yes, there was snow and ice and, well, more snow — but you couldn’t tell from the audience turnout on Friday night. The 200 seat theatre was almost full of Whedon fans — old and new, from near and far. There were die-hard Buffy fans, Browncoats, anxious soon-to-be Dollhouse fans and a couple of newly recruited Dr. Horrible fans.
Since those who would deign to purchase the Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog DVD in the first place, would be those who’ve already seen the Indy flick, the great anticipation has been for the oft-discussed Commentary! The Musical, along with the various other extras included.
These episodes feature Joss Whedon, the creator and head writer of the popular television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, as well as the creator and head writer of Everybody Loves Raymond, Phil Rosenthal. The remaining four episodes will be released in the following weeks.
When a remake of a movie is contemplated, one hopes there is someone on board who loves the original, knows every nuance and comes up with a good reason for the remake to happen. Most of the time that person isn’t there, or was and got kicked off the project (ex. Bionic Woman). Sometimes, just sometimes, you get a project you know someone loved, and although it’s not perfect (not every movie can be Iron Man) you can see how hard they tried.
