It’s been a very stressful and interesting 2025 with the return of Trump, assorted chaos, and Beyonce finally winning Album of the Year at the Grammys.

A while ago, Sarah Michelle Gellar was asked if she’d consider bringing back Buffy, the Vampire Slayer.
In the past, she had been unsure. Two months ago, while promoting her role in Dexter: Original Sin, she said “I always used to say no, but it’s in its own bubble and it’s so perfect. But watching […And Just Like That] and seeing [Dexter: Original Sin], and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely gets your mind thinking ‘Well, maybe'”

After all, Star Trek has done that very well. Even 90210, Charmed and Saved by the Bell came back.
Lots of fans have written fan fiction about how it could be done, and we already had a lot of comics.

Now, it just might be possible.
The Hollywood Reporter just announced a pilot for a Buffy revival for Hulu. Sarah will be part of it, but it’s not certain who she will play. Could it be Buffy…or someone else?
No comment yet from 20th Century TV or Hulu, but the idea is to focus on a younger Slayer. So….SMG will be Giles only more open-minded on how the job should be done? This new Watchers’ Council should be interesting.
Also, what about the “Chosen One” rule? Let’s just hope it’s still gone, as it was in the Dark Horse ‘verse. Nothing wrong with having regional Slayers. It must have occurred to someone that vampires would rather gather where the Slayer isn’t there. Take that out, and it gets more interesting.

So far, it’s revealed Nora and Lilla Zuckerman (who wrote for Poker Face) will be involved in the pilot as executive producers. No word on who will write it.
The director will be Oscar winner Chloe Zhao.

If we do get a show, or even a mini-series, it would be a good idea to bring back people from the past. It should be important they’re not exactly what they used to be but mostly are.
They should consider a writing staff that might include David Greenwalt, Jane Espenson, Amber Benson and maybe David Fury.
What about Joss Whedon? He invented this world, and he should have some involvement in rebuilding it. Hulu, and Joss, should have the final word.
