This year’s event, marking the 20th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the 15th anniversary of Firefly, celebrates by raising funds for two amazing organizations dedicated to helping local children.
In memory of Ron Glass (Firefly, Serenity, Barney Miller), Fandom Charities will be raising funds for the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center (a youth center that was dear to his heart), which provides free after school and low-cost summer programs for boys and girls in grades 3-12 with the goal of preparing them for college.
Also, in partnership with The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Fandom Charities is proud to support My Friend’s Place, which assists homeless youth with therapeutic, health and education services.
Additionally, over the past year Whedon Knit-Nights have been held around Southern California for our Baby Item Drive to support the non-denominational Newborns in Need – San Fernando Valley Chapter.
It’s going to be an exciting, fun-filled weekend, helping out some great charities, and you can be there! Visit WhedonCon.com to get your membership today!
