The cast and producers of Riverdale were very excited about the second season in the San Diego Comic-Con press room. This season they are exploring each character more, especially the characters we didn’t see much in season one.
Cole Sprouse (Jughead Jones) said because of the critical acclaim they received in the first season, they’re able to have more flexibility to tell more of the story they want to tell. Archie Andrews (K.J. Apa) will be going down a dark path of revenge next season.
“There’s no supernatural element but in terms of the darkness and the ability to tell a little bit more interesting narrative through pain and through tragedy, we’ve been given more flexibility to do so,” said Sprouse.
Lili Reinhart said that Betty’s speech at the end of season one has an effect on the mystery that they can’t say anything about in season two. Camila Mendes teases Veronica’s father’s effects on Riverdale.
Archie isn’t the only one going dark in season two, Executive Producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa teased Kevin (Casey Cott) going dark.
Aguirre-Sacasa told the press room that Josie will be a River Vixen this season and Ashleigh Murray said it’s her mom who arranges it but wouldn’t tell us more than that. Season two may be a little bit better for Cheryl. Madelaine Petsch said Cheryl took back control of her life when she burned her house to the ground.
Executive Producer Sarah Schechter teased Toni Topaz and Hayley Law (Val Brown) and Asha Bromfield (Melody Valentine) are excited to explore more of their character in season two.
